On Friday, November 18, 2023, the Diefenbunker: Canada’s Cold War Museum was thrilled to host the return of our signature annual Whisky Tasting Fundraiser!

We welcomed over one hundred people to this special event, to partake in tasteful whisky and food pairings, a silent auction, a raffle, a 50/50 draw, and a retro photo booth. Guests also had the opportunity to take a walk through history, with some Diefenbunker trivia and immersing themselves in the museum’s newest exhibitions and interactive experiences. Throughout the evening, guests were invited to try four different whiskies, each of which was paired with a delectable dish crafted by our food sponsor for the event, The Swan at Carp.

A sommelier with the local Savvy Company presented each whisky, providing detailed information on the selection such as land origins, founders, notes, and more. The whisky selection included Rabbit Hole Dareringer Bourbon Whisky, Bladnoch Vinaya Lowland Single Malt Scotch Whisky, Penderyn Sherrywood Single Malt Whisky, and Aberfeldy 16 Year Old Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky. A few fun facts to highlight from the evening’s events: “Vinaya” is a Sanskrit word meaning “respect or gratitude and Aberfeldydirectly translates to “the pool of the water god.” These impeccable tastings left many smiling faces and created an unforgettable evening.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this one-of-a-kind event and congratulations to all of our silent auction, raffle, and 50/50 winners! With your participation, along with our sponsor support, we are pleased to share that we raised just over $25,000. This is monumental in our ability to continue growing our exhibitions and programs that share important lessons from recent world history. Your funds will support the preservation of Cold War artifacts and stories at the Diefenbunker for years to come.
