SUMMARY:Winterlude: Celebrating Indigenous Cultures
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Diefenbunker for Winterlude 2024! Winterlude has been held in Ottawa-Gatineau every year in February since 1979. This flagship winter festival celebrates Canada’s unique northern culture and climate. \nWeek 1: Celebrating Indigenous cultures\nFriday\, February 2 – Sunday\, February 4\, 2024\nDuring the museum’s operational hours \nExplore Inuit perspectives from the Cold War in the exhibition An Inuit Story: The DEW Line\, or experience the Diefenbunker’s history as you walk through the historic site listening to an Audio Guide\, available in Inuktitut\, Ojibwe\, and seven other languages. \nActivities are included in the cost of museum admission. The Diefenbunker offers free admission to Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. (NTI) Enrolment Cardholders. This event is inspired by the Diefenbunker’s commitment to inclusion and accessibility. The museum endeavours to increase representation and respectful interpretation of important Indigenous histories. \n\n\n\nRejoignez-nous au Diefenbunker pour le Bal de Neige de 2024! Le Bal de Neige a lieu chaque année en février à Ottawa-Gatineau depuis 1979. Cet événement phare de la saison hivernale célèbre la culture et le climat nordique uniques du Canada. \n1er semaine : Célébrez les cultures autochtones\nLe vendredi 2 février au dimanche 4 février\, 2024\nPendant les heures d’ouverture du musée \nExplorez les perspectives inuites de la guerre froide dans l’exposition Une histoire inuite – Le Réseau DEW\, ou découvrez l’histoire du Diefenbunker en parcourant le site historique en écoutant un audioguide qui est disponible en inuktitut\, en ojibwe et dans sept autres langues. \nLes activités sont comprises avec l’entrée générale au musée. Families will be given a guide for a visual scavenger hunt with varying levels of difficulty to suit all abilities. Complete the scavenger hunt to receive a prize! \nThis event is included in the cost of museum admission. Discover uncorked vintages\, 75 feet underground\, as you sip and savour delectable wine and cheese pairings on a special interactive tour of our impressive four-storey underground Cold War communications headquarters. \nEnjoy noires notes and nuclear nectars on this perfect Valentine’s date night or evening out with friends\, while immersing yourself in our one-of-a-kind museum and national historic site as you journey through the Bank of Canada Vault\, War Cabinet Room\, and more. \nTickets\nIndividual: $80.00\n– Six wine and cheese pairings\n– Cocktail snacks\, coffee\, and tea\n– Access to full cash bar \nDesignated Driver: $50.00\n– Six cheese plates\n– Cocktail snacks\, coffee\, and tea\n– Two drink tickets for non-alcoholic beverages\n– Access to non-alcoholic beverages at the cash bar \nLooking for something extra sweet? When you purchase your tickets before February 1 at 11:59 p.m. ET\, you can choose to add on a box of handmade chocolates. Four chocolate truffles are thoughtfully crafted by a local chocolatier at The Swan at Carp\, and are gluten- and nut-free. \nEvent Details\n6:30 p.m. Doors open to guests.\n7:00 p.m. First pairing begins in the historic Cafeteria space.\n7:20 p.m. Four additional pairings are served by sommeliers at stops on a guided tour of the museum.\n9:20 p.m. Guests are invited back to the Cafeteria for the final pairing.\n10:30 p.m. Event ends. \nAll guests are welcome to take pictures in our Valentine’s themed photo booth\, and they can also enjoy tasteful tunes to cleanse the palate in between tasting destinations. This flagship winter festival celebrates Canada’s unique northern culture and climate. \nWeek 3: Diefenbunker Winter Carnival\nSaturday\, February 17\, 2024\n11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. \nDuring its time as a military base\, the Diefenbunker held an annual Winter Carnival. Participate in these historic activities\, with a modern twist — snow sculpting\, snow painting\, a tug of war challenge\, or traversing the snowy trails of the scenic bunker hillside. Warm up indoors with free hot chocolate or by exploring a temporary exhibit highlighting the traditions of the Winter Carnival through stories\, videos\, and artifacts. \nOutdoor activities are free. The temporary exhibit is included in the cost of museum admission. \n  \n\n\nRejoignez-nous au Diefenbunker pour le Bal de Neige de 2024! Le Bal de Neige a lieu chaque année en février à Ottawa-Gatineau depuis 1979.
