Wiseman will discuss his recent book\, Frontier Science\, highlighting newly declassified records about the size and scope of military research and development in Canada during the early Cold War to investigate the militarization of the country’s professional scientific community.   \nAbout the speaker\n \nDr. Matthew Wiseman   \nMatthew S. Wiseman is an assistant professor (teaching stream) in the Department of History at the University of Waterloo. His research and teaching concentrate on the history of twentieth-century Canada\, with special emphasis on the development of science and medical research ethics. He is the author of Frontier Science: Northern Canada\, Military Research\, and the Cold War\, 1945–1970 (UTP\, 2024) and co-editor of Silent Partners: The Origins and Influence of Canada’s Military-Industrial Complex (UBC Press\, 2023). With an eye to understanding the social and political dynamics of science\, Wiseman’s publications examine the complex dimensions of military- and state-sponsored research conducted at government\, private\, and academic institutions. DESCRIPTION:Our annual Toddlers’ Halloween Hunt is back! Bring your little ones for a day of fun to get into the Halloween spirit.   \nCome dressed in your favourite costume and explore hidden Halloween surprises in our 100\,000-square-foot underground bunker that will be decked out for the occasion.  \nEnjoy the fun atmosphere\, decorations\, and perfect photo ops as you search throughout the museum to find treats (nut-free!)\, small prizes\, crafts\, and other themed activities.  \nYou won’t want to miss out on this fa-boo-lous event!   \n\nDates: Thursday\, October 30 and Friday\, October 31\, 2025  \nTimes: Entry time slots are every 30 minutes between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. The event ends at 12:30 p.m.   \nCost: $13 per person; Children 5 years old and under are free.  \nParking is always free!  \nReserve your tickets in advance\, as there are limited spots available. \n>> BUY TICKETS\n\n                    \n\n*Please note that the multiple levels\, stairs\, and narrow hallways in the Diefenbunker make the museum difficult to navigate with a stroller\, and there is no elevator available for public use. While there is an accessible stair lift\, we recommend bringing a baby carrier instead of a stroller\, if this is a feasible option for you.
