February 11, 2008

CARP, ON: Diefenbunker, Canada’s Cold War Museum will hold its next Film Club screening Tuesday, February 19th at 7:00 p.m. The museum is proud to present a film from the other side of the former Iron Curtain as part of its efforts to reach out to Ottawa’s ex-Eastern Bloc communities and forge new cultural links across old Cold War divides.

This month’s film will be Repentance (Original title: Pokayanie. Russian with English subtitles), an award-winning 1987 Soviet-era production. The film was the first open cinematographic criticism of the Stalinist period, told through the story of an allegorical Georgian village and its deceased mayor.

All are welcome to this event, which will take place seventy feet underground in the museum’s cafeteria. Light refreshments, wine and cheese will be available. The cost for the movie is $6 per person. A museum tour will start at 6:00 pm. The tour and the movie are jointly available at the price of $15 per person.

Reservations for both options are required, as space is limited. For reservations, information or a complete list of Film Club 2008 movies please call (613) 839-0007,  email eduprograms@diefenbunker.caor visit www.diefenbunker.ca.
