Diefenbunker,
Canada’s
Cold
War
Museum, is proud to announce the opening of two new temporary exhibitions on April 26. The exhibitions, on different aspects of
Canada’s Cold War history, were created by students of the Applied Museums Studies Program at
Algonquin
College..
The exhibit “Preparing the Nation:
Canada’s Medical Response to the Cold War” looks at the planning and preparation incase of nuclear attack. The emergency hospital stockpile organized mobile hospitals that could be set up where needed post-disaster.
“Fearing for the Worst:
Ottawa and the Cold War” is an exhibit which looks at the civil defense of
Ottawa, as well as the several military instillations in and around the area. Important personages of the time including political figures and people who were accused of spying for the
Soviet Union are also examined.
The opening and reception will take place at 2:00 pm at the Diefenbunker,
Canada’s
Cold
War
Museum, located at
3911 Carp Road, 35 minutes west of downtown. RSVP to administration@diefenbunker.ca.
These exhibitions continue programming for the Diefenbunker’s 10th anniversary celebrations in 2008.
The Applied Museum Studies Program, the oldest at
Algonquin
College, takes a holistic approach encompassing conservation, collections management, exhibit design, museum management and programming, through practicum based learning.
